Did you know that plants can absorb nutrients through their leaves when they are sprayed with a diluted solution of fertilizer? This is a quick, effective way of supplying micronutrients, especially when a deficiency is noticed or if there is an undeveloped root system.
Foliar feeds can also be used as a tonic in extreme weather conditions. Especially during wet spells.
It may sound obvious but only use foliar sprays when the herbs have developed enough leaves to ensure a reasonable amount of leaf absorption. The best way to apply a foliar feed is with a mist spray, making sure that both sides of the leaves are drenched. Apply early in the morning or late in the afternoon.
Remember, plants feed best through their roots so foliar feeding should not be seen as a substitute for root feeding but rather as a supplement.
